One area where gender roles are prevalent is the computer engineering industry where the males dominate and the women have little to know interest in joining the field according to the article Bridging the Gender Gap: Why MBridging the Gender Gap: Why More Women Aren't Computer Scientists, Engineersore Women Aren't Computer Scientists, Engineers by Judy Woodruff of PBS NEWS. Women say that the field just isn't interesting and both men and women tend to say its a guy thing.

The person being interviewed in this article , Maria Klawe, seems to think after her research that women don't care much for the computer engineering industry. One reason she says is women are more prone to go into areas with chemistry or biology than math and physics related areas. because computer degrees are pushed on guys more than women, the chance for gained interest has been lessened considerably. Maria also believes that we are shutting out the feminine perspective which will cause us to have a whole different set of products coming out of this field.

This was stated during the interview too both men and women agree that computer engineering is a guy thing. I personally believe that this huge set back of women entering this field is caused by our society who pushes women to take caregiving jobs that need motherly skills so to speak and men to take the seemingly more complicated ones with break through technology.

The computer engineering industry needs more women in it so that we can have both points of views. Do you think computer engineering is a guy or girl thing or both.
