In the article Why the Engineering, Computer Science Gender Gap Persists  Jenny Marder of Scientific American it is stated that the amount of men enrolling in engineering degrees is double that of women and the amount of men getting a masters is four times as many as women. One college professor says when she grades her students essays on what engineering means to them that she says when reading the papers done by women they cite subtle discrimination and that the scarcity of women to be isolating.

The amount of men enrolling in engineering degrees compared to women is astonishing. We need more women enrolling in these fields so that the women who have gone into this field will be more compelled to stay. The women who have studied engineering tend to get doctorates or masters instead of the run of the mill bachelors degree.

I think that there probably is some subtle discrimination in the engineering field, but that shouldn't discourage women from entering it. Did discrimination stop them from entering the military no it didn't. So why should this be any different from that? The article also says the scarcity of women is isolating and this is exactly the reason we need more women to join these types of fields so that scarcity turns to equality.

The engineering industry will need more women in the near future so that technology will advance faster because of the difference in views that women have compared to men.
